Tennis is a sport that involves a cord strung racquet (tennis racquet) used to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt (tennis ball) over a net (tennis net) into the opponent’s court. The objective of the game is to try to make the opponent miss the ball or commit an error returning the ball. When opponent missed the ball or did not manage to return the ball into the boundaries of the opposite court, the opposite opponent will gain a point.

Modern tennis originated in Birmingham, England, in the late 19th century as “lawn tennis” and is now being played as a recreational sport by millions of people all around the world and had became a popular sport watched by spectator all around the world. There are three main types of courts that tennis are played on, namely, the hard courts, the clay courts and the grass courts.

There are currently four Grand Slam tournaments for tennis (for both men and women) every year where all the top players in the world will contest to lift the trophy and get ranking points. The four Grand Slam tournaments are the Australian Open (hard courts), the French Open (red clay courts), Wimbledon (grass courts), and the US Open (hard courts). Professional tennis had adopted electronic review technology coupled with a point challenge system, this allows a player to challenge line calls of a point if they think the call was incorrect.

The Association of Tennis porfessionals (ATP) is the principal organizing body for men’s professional tennis. The ATP World Tour is the circuit organized by the ATP where daily news and results for men’s tennis are covered. Professional players are also ranked by the Emirates ATP rankings system according to their performance for the past year. Points are updated after every tournament to reflect the changes in world ranking for the players.

Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) organized the women’s professional circuit and covers news and results for most, if not all, the women’s tennis tournaments throughout the year. Similarly, the ladies are ranked is the principal organizing body of women’s professional tennis. are covered by the WTA rankings system according to their performance for the past year. Points are updated after every tournament to reflect the changes in world ranking for the players.
